July 2017 Purpose By Design Girls' Retreat-Art Worship

Our Purpose By Design teenage girl retreat of 20 girls and18 leaders had a "yellow brick road" Wizard of Oz theme for this year 2017 in Tennessee. The girls designed their future roads with obstacles and gold bricks representing the overcoming of those obstacles. Each girl listened to God as she designed her Road, grouted it representing "Jesus holding all things together," and then applied cork for an interactive art piece. They spoke about their art and then the girls and leaders encouraged them with the things that we saw in their art piece. This was a challenging and ambitious discovery project, but all of the girls were engrossed in the art of mosaic as a medium.

 Why pray?  "First, God.  God is the subject of life.  God is foundational for living.  If we don't have a sense of the primacy of God, we will never get it right, get life right, get our lives right.  Not God at the margins; not God as an option; not God on the weekends.  God at center and circumference; God first and last. Creative Prayer Workshop #3 Paint Your Heart Out! Painting your emotions

  We had a wonderful workshop with Allison leading us in painting our emotions.  We started with putting a color on paper of what a description of anger, joy, peace and love would look like to each of us in color. The next paintings were guided layers of emotions, perhaps a lie we believed, and the truth that we know, all represented in colors and layers.  Some of the pictures from the evening are below.
