Junior High Art Workshop @Vail Church 2/4/24

Image
Vail Church's Junior High Sunday School Class, exploring their identity in Christ, was led in an art worship workshop of affirmations and who we are in Christ.  Collage was the medium where the students practiced their listening skills from God, and were led to concentrate on 1 of the many affirmations of who they are if they have decided to follow Jesus.  Many wrote the affirmation that they chose, and all were a beautiful collage of how they saw their affirmation statement.  All of the students were deeply engaged and would have worked longer if they had more than the 45 minutes allotted to the class.  Below is their raw artwork with some of their affirmations:.... Then, Wendy overlayed the students profiles that they had made during the previous week's class.  Not all of the same students were in attendance both weeks, but she worked with what she had.  The beautiful results are below:

Questions? Session #2 "Who told you that?"

QUESTION #2    "WHO TOLD YOU THAT?"   Supplies needed:   Colored tissue paper, a canvas or board, watered down glue in a bowl and a sponge brush, magazines. Welcome to The Maker’s Space.   This is a safe place where we slow down and use art to practice listening to God.   This year, The Maker’s Space will be looking at 5 questions that God asks us that we can ask ourselves in order to get to know ourselves and God, and others, better.   You might feel like you are at languishing point in your life, [a state between despair and flourishing] and I think that asking questions of God, ourselves and each other can help us do the “what’s next?” and move us into flourishing.   Think about doing this session by yourself, and then invite a group of friends or family to do it together and encourage conversations.   When we practice listening to God, we can then practice our listening skills with others.   There will be more discussion quest...

#5 Session of Culture Care- Charcoal Still Life

Image
SUPPLIES NEEDED: PAPER LIKE VELLUM, VINE CHARCOAL, HARD CHARCOAL, KNEADED ERASER, PRINTS OF REFERENCE PHOTOS, and tissues. Welcome to #5 and the last of the series on Culture Care.  We have been reading the book by Makoto Fujimura and doing a different medium of art with every new set of chapters.  We use art to slow down and listen to what God is saying to each of us.  He is always speaking, we need to purposefully listen to Him.  I hope that you have enjoyed this series and would love to hear what you have learned.  Take some time at the end of each session and look at your art and verbalize the concepts or thoughts it helps you remember.  I would love for you to comment on how this series has been helpful or inspiring to you.  You can always write to me at 2013themakersspace@gmail.com Enjoy this 5th video!
