2nd session of Art Lectio Divina 1John 2:28-3:10

1John 2:28-3:10 speaks of us being children of God.  After reading it through 4 times, and each time asking for a word or a phrase, we then asked the Holy Spirit for a vision or a color to begin to illustrate the concept that He wanted to teach us.  The paintings and Scripture that each artist noticed speaks for itself.  All four paintings can be viewed in the South Alcove Gallery of Glen Ellyn Covenant Church.

verse 3:8b  "The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work."

The devil's hand is being destroyed and fading as the stamping footprint of the Son of God has stepped on it.

verse 3:1  "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God."

The light represents God's love lavished down into the darkness of the pond.  The lily pads are children of God.

Verse 2:28  "And now, dear children, continue in Him, so that when He appears we may be confident and unashamed before Him at His coming."

Unashamed and confident joy, like a child, we run into Jesus' arms.

Verse 3:2  "...when Christ appears, we shall be ike Him, for we shall see Him as He is.  All who have this hope in Him purity themselves, just as He is pure."

The change to be like Him will happen like an explosion from the inside of us out as we become like Him and come out of the darkness surrounding us.
