Finishing our 10th year and looking forward to next fall and the Ancient Practice of Spiritual Disciplines
This year's The Maker's Space, Oct.,2022- June, 2023, has had six sessions of creative prayer using art, some of which have touched on some of the ancient prayer disciplines. This has been our 10th year of The Maker's Space and all have been creating the environment where listening prayer and prayer in the form of art is a conversation with God. All have been spaces where we come out of a chaotic world to slow down, play with the creator of the universe, and hear what He might be whispering to us visually through the art that we do.
Next year, starting in October, we will continue with some of these ancient practices of prayer, to create a space for them, thus acquainting ourselves with the practice perhaps incorporating it into our daily lives.
God is speaking to us all of the time through creation, people we meet, and through His Word, the Bible. We just have to learn how to listen and how to focus on God, instead of the millions of distractions that bombard us. It is possible, but it takes intention, focus and practice. The better that we get at focusing on God in the quiet spaces, the better we can hear Him and find Him in the noisy spaces of our lives. That is why we practice and try to create a quiet space first. There are very few quiet spaces left in our daily lives and we aren't use to it and have a hard time staying still without distraction.
Ancient Practices of Spiritual Disciplines Using the Arts can help and will be our focus for our next season of The Maker's Space starting Sunday, Oct. 8 and Sunday, Nov. 12. Some of these could include lectio divina using art, meditation of scripture using art, breath prayers using art, the art of simplicity in living a simple and peaceful life using art, cross making and using the psalms in art. Come join us or follow us here and carve out some time to slow down and find a new and deeper way to pray.
"This is what the LORD says: Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls."
All sessions are held at Glen Ellyn Covenant Church 277 Hawthorn Blvd. Glen Ellyn, IL 5-7pm
